Pico do Areeiro
The third highest mountain in Madeira, with easy access and spectacular views.
Located at an altitude of 1818 meters, Pico do Areeiro is the third highest point on the island of Madeira. From the top, it is possible to have a wide perspective over the central mountain range, with the Atlantic Ocean in the background, in a truly cinematic view.
In addition to the view over the mountain range, from Pico do Areeiro you can also see Ponta de São Lourenço, Curral das Freiras and, on days with better visibility, the island of Porto Santo. This is one of the most visited places on the island, due to its good access and the amenities available.
But the main attraction is undoubtedly the visual spectacle that can be enjoyed at sunrise, weather conditions permitting. This show has been attracting more and more onlookers and photography lovers to the viewpoint located in Pico do Areeiro.
In addition to the view and privileged conditions for photography, Pico do Areeiro is also the starting point for one of the most outstanding pedestrian routes on the island, the PR1 Vereda do Areeiro. The trail heads towards Pico das Torres (1851 m) and ends at the highest point of the archipelago, Pico Ruivo (1862 m). An unmissable experience for nature and hiking lovers.
